Your Child's First Visit Howell, NJ
Helping your child build happy, healthy smile habits starts early. At Howell Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Karan and our cheerful team love making dental visits feel like a fun and natural part of growing up.
We want every child to feel comfortable, curious, and even excited about caring for their growing smile.
We recommend bringing your child in before their first birthday to become familiar with our friendly environment and gentle, playful approach.
As the “Purple Pediatric Dentist,” Dr. Karan brings creativity, warmth, and an artsy touch to every visit, creating a space where children feel safe and parents feel confident.
Our goal is to make your child’s first visit, and every visit after, easy and positive for the whole family.
What You Should Know About Your Child’s First Dental Visit
There are a few simple things you can do to help your child’s first visit go smoothly. Before your appointment, you will receive paperwork to complete. If possible, fill this out ahead of time and send it to us or bring it with you.
If you are unable to complete the forms in advance, please arrive at least 15 minutes early so you have plenty of time without feeling rushed.

If you or your child has a cold or is not feeling well, please let us know so we can help you reschedule. Our waiting room is shared by many families, and we work hard to keep it a healthy, happy place for everyone.
This helps protect all of our little patients and ensures a comfortable visit for your child. While in the waiting room, we encourage families to use positive, kid-friendly language.
Instead of words that may sound scary, try playful phrases like “tooth counter,” or “smile helper.” Even very young children notice tone and emotion, and cheerful words help create a relaxed experience for everyone.
